On March 28th
Scarsdale Action for Youth (S.A.Y) will host a community meeting at the Scarsdale Library focused on “Promoting Achievement and Resilience: What Parents Need to Know About Youth Marijuana Use”. Join Dr. Amelia Arria, University of Maryland Professor and Associate Chair, as she discusses recent trends in youth marijuana use, the relationship between marijuana use and academic performance, and how to recognize the connection between marijuana use and mental health, risk for addiction, and
employment.
Dr. Arria is a widely recognized expert in substance abuse and mental health. She will discuss her recent research focused on the risk and resiliency factors associated with mental health and substance use problems among adolescents and young adults. Her work has clarified the impact of substance use, particularly excessive drinking and marijuana use, on academic achievement. She has authored more than 170 scientific peer-reviewed publications, numerous white papers and book chapters, and is the recipient of several grant awards from foundations as well as state and federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Arria received her training at Cornell University, the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
