Scarsdale Drug & Alcohol Task Force (“DATF”) announced a rebranding of the coalition in order to better align with its mission to empower youth and families to make healthy and safe choices. The coalition will now operate as Scarsdale Action for Youth (“S.A.Y.”). The rebranding initiative follows the recent award of the Drug Free Communities Grant from White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) to enhance substance use prevention efforts as part of S.A.Y.’s overall goal to build resilience among youth. The rebranding solidifies the coalition’s commitment to advocate for Scarsdale’s young people and to support them as they navigate the path to adulthood.
“Investing in young people is a vital piece of our village-wide effort to make Scarsdale healthier and safer. By involving the community in a solution-oriented approach, S.A.Y. strives to empower youth with the knowledge and skills to both prevent alcohol and drug use, and to utilize the many supportive resources around them as they grow and develop”, said S.A.Y. Co-Chairperson Wendy Gendel.
“S.A.Y.’s success is built on the commitment of its parents, its volunteers, and its community partners,” noted Amy Rompala, Co-Chairperson of S.A.Y. “In order to continue that record of achievement, we must enlist the help and advocacy of the entire community towards the goal of supporting our young people. We urge everyone in our Village to get informed and get involved”.
About Scarsdale Action for Youth
The DATF is a community coalition dedicated to building resilience among our youth, including reducing underage use of alcohol, marijuana and other drugs that negatively impact the health of our youth. Since its founding in 1984, the DATF has worked to convene all sectors of our community to create positive change for our young people. In July 2015, Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Service (SFCS), an accredited family service agency, assumed the role of Lead Agency and Fiscal Agent for the DATF
DATF utilizes a research-based prevention framework to assess issues impacting our youth and implements evidence-based strategies that generate population level change. Our initiatives are informed by science and incorporate best practices to support our youth and community. Its membership includes youth, parents, community leaders, law enforcement, school staff and administrators, Village officials, businesses and more, all of whom work towards the vision of Scarsdale as a community that supports and advocates for its youth.
